Sega Are Looking To Make The Remasters Of 'Shenmue' I And II A Reality

YES!

Shenmue 3 is on the horizon so Sega are 'investigating' capitalising on this by remastering both of its prequels, Shenmue and Shenmue II.

The games have become cult classics since they were released. While they may not have been blockbusters of their time, they've been hugely influential and have fervent fanbases.

If Sega do go ahead with it, it will certainly make playing the games a hell of a lot easier. The first one was only available on the Dreamcast, while Shenmue II was released on the Dreamcast and the original Xbox. It's probably fair to say not many people still own those consoles.

Obviously, time is a factor also. The decade and a half have not been kind to the games so a HD remaster would make a huge difference. Sega agree.

VG247 reported that during the latest episode of Sega Central, community manager Dan Sheridan said Sega is working on it.

"Sadly, it's not as simple as porting the games to current platforms as we will need to ensure that any HD remaster lives up to the quality of the original titles," he said.

"And with games as immersive as Shenmue 1 and 2, there are further complications from licensed products that were included in the original games. That said, we'd love to do it and are currently investigating how to make it a reality."

So while they haven't been officially confirmed, it's safe to expect them to happen. Just not anytime soon.

Shenmue 3 doesn't actually arrive until late 2017 but many will be hoping for a reveal of the game at E3 next month.
