The Avengers Project Could Be An Ultimate Alliance Reboot
Marvel and Square Enix's highly anticipated The Avengers Project is rumoured to be a complete reboot of Ultimate Alliance.
Since they announced the game last year there hasn't really been any more information other than the trailers, so it was a bit of a surprise to see these claims coming from a 4chan user.
IGN Germany reported that the user said: "Cutting to the short of it: 'The Avengers Project' is Avengers: Ultimate Alliance. But it's not just Ultimate Alliance 3, it's a full reboot with the name on it."
Apparently that's why the tagline of the original trailer was 'Reassemble,' interesting, right? It's also alleged that the games main characters will be Iron Man, Captain America and Scarlet Witch- all of whose voices subtly appear in the teaser trailer.
"That's the reason why the tagline of the first teaser was 'Reassemble', to hint at it being a reboot. This is also why the previous Ultimate Alliance games got [remade] recently for current-gen.
"Think something like the new God of War, minus the story continuity: similar name, totally new gameplay/story structure."
That's quite the comparison. If it's developed anything like the recent God of War release, it will sure be a success. The original Ultimate Alliance was released way back in October 2006, with the sequel Ultimate Alliance 2 coming out three years later in September 2009. If these rumours actually turn out to be true then it's been nothing short of a long wait for fans of the series, but they shouldn't get their hopes up yet.
During the run up to E3 there are a number hoaxes flying all over the internet every year, so it could just be another case of someone making it all up. Neither Marvel nor Square Enix have commented on the claims so we'll just have to wait to see if anything mentioned during the event next week.
