Everyone knows that Titanic heroes Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are one of the best on-screen couples ever, and best pals to boot. Now the pair are continuing their legacy by helping to save a woman who was suffering from cancer.

Gemma Nuttall from Rossendale, England was told that she had months to live after she delayed her treatment for ovarian cancer so she could give birth to her daughter Penelope in 2014.

However, 29-year-old Gemma was eventually saved after her mum launched a £300,000 fundraising appeal which caught the attention of Winslet, who roped Leo into auctioning off three 'Jack and Kate' date nights with her. Gemma finished her treatment five months ago and is now cancer-free.

"I can't thank Kate enough," Gemma said, according to the Daily Mail. "Without her donations, and the public's, my story would be very different. We thought it was a wind-up, but then she called and I realised she was serious."

"I was so nervous but she asked me how I was feeling and how my treatment was going - she wanted to help.

"I told her I could never thank her enough and she told me not to be daft. She said she had read about my story online, that she had three kids of her own and had thought about what she would be like in that position."

With the help of the money raised from the date nights, along with public donations and money from her mum's house sale, Gemma was able to receive a six-session course of immunotherapy from the Hallwang Clinic in Germany.

Kate's impressive effort in helping Gemma, along with her other charity work, led to her receiving a prestigious Actors' Inspiration Award from the Screen Actors' Guild last November. Well deserved, we say.

"The greatest privilege has been learning how to use my voice to help others," Kate said as she received the award.

"Standing up for individuals who don't have the means to stand up for themselves... Helping a person who is dying - she's still alive by the way - because they don't have the money that could pay for specialist treatment that could save her life."

Gemma is set to have her next scan later this month, which may reveal her need to have more immunotherapy to prevent her cancer from ever coming back.

She's set to re-open her GoFundMe page for donations but won't be forgetting the effort Kate put into keeping her alive. The pair may even eventually meet in person.

How's that for a heart-warming story?
