Adam Sandler has praised Masters competitor Will Zalatoris after noticed he looks kind of similar to a character from Happy Gilmore.

The American actor starred in the iconic 1996 sports film and it was so legendary that fans still make references and quotes to this day.

But Sandler couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the 24-year-old come into the competition and absolutely rocket up the leaderboard.

He thought Will looked remarkably similar to the actor who played his caddy on Happy Gilmore, Jared Van Snellenberg, and pointed it out on social media.

On the final day of the competition, Sandler thought he would give Zalatoris a bit of encouragement and tweeted a message.

He joked to 2.8 million followers: "Have fun today young man. Mr. Gilmore is watching you and very proud."

Zalatoris was staring down the possibility of becoming the first rookie to win the Masters since 1979.

Sadly, the 24-year-old young gun wasn't able to clinch the Masters win and the title went to a very well deserving Hideki Matsuyama.

Will saw the funny side to Sandler's joke on social media and even offered to caddy for him if he stepped onto the fairway again.

Zalatoris is no stranger to the comparison between himself and Van Snellenberg. He even has 'Mr. Gilmore, I'm your caddy' engraved on his wedge.

If you haven't seen the movie, first of all, how have you gone this long without seeing it?

Secondly, check out the videos below if you still can't seen the comparison between Zalatoris and Jared Van Snellenberg.

It's been 25 years since we saw Happy swinging his way around the golf tour to eventually topple Shooter McGavin at the Tour Championship, on the 18th hole.

To celebrate the quarter century anniversary since his momentous day, Sandler took to the golf course back in February to prove he's still got that magical swing in his arsenal.

And not to be outdone, at least not on this occasion, McGavin even responded to show that he's also still got the skills.

It might be a long time ago since Gilmore was dancing, shouting and swearing his way down the fairways and onto the greens of the golf tour but he's remained relevant.
