Adele burst into tears on stage at the London Palladium after being surprised by her favourite high school teacher, who she hadn't seen for more than 20 years.
The singer was performing An Audience With Adele for ITV when she was asked by Dame Emma Thompson if there was anyone special who encouraged her when she was growing up.
"I had a teacher at Chestnut Grove, that was Miss McDonald. She left when I was in Year 8. She got me into English literature, but she also did Street Dance. She was just so bloody cool, so engaging, and she really made us care," said the singer.

Miss McDonald was then revealed to be in the audience and came on stage to hug Adele, who promptly burst into tears.

"I didn't know that you were coming! How are you? You look just the same. Thank you. Mum, can you believe it," exclaimed the singer.
"Oh my God! How are you? I haven't seen you since I was 12. Have you got kids? Can I get your number? I've got to get my make-up fixed."
Adele was performing in front of an incredible array of celebrities, and she asked Alan Carr to come up and cover for her while she touched up her makeup.

"Alan do you want to come and talk for five minutes while I fix my face. For real," Adele said.
Carr led the audience in a sing-a-long of her hit song 'Make You Feel My Love' while Adele got fixed up.
The singer, who just released her fourth album 30, six years after 25 which was released in 2015, also addressed her relationship with Beyonce at the event.
Asked by Ted Lasso actor Hannah Waddingham who her idols were, Adele said she didn't count Beyonce among them as the pair are 'night and day'.
"I love a bit of Beyonce but I can't compare myself to her. It's like night and day," she said. "Beyonce's one of my favourites, she's not one of my idols. Don't come for me!

30, which addresses Adele's divorce and looks at motherhood and the scrutiny of fame, broke Apple Music records three weeks before its release, becoming the most pre-added album ever on the platform.
It secured 60.7 million streams globally on Spotify on its first day of release, making it one of the biggest debuts in history.
