It looks like the new standalone The Suicide Squad film will be much better than the original. A new squad has been assembled and it really packs a punch.

The trailer was enough to get fans excited, but critics have given tiny snippets of what we can expect and it's nothing short of epic.

The word 'insane' has been dropped a lot on social media from the expert viewers that have been lucky enough to get an early screening.

But thankfully they mean insane in a good way.

Several have commented that it's the 'goriest' film in the DC Universe so far, that it's 'violent as hell, raunchy, unforgiving', and one critic even went as far as saying it's the 'wildest, wackiest, bloodiest comic book movie I've ever seen'.

Many have mentioned the film has a good mix of comedy with action and that it has an 'outrageous opening'. That'll be something to set the tone for the film.

Collider's Drew Taylor wrote: "The Suicide Squad is gloriously insane and so, so fun... after watching it, you'll think you might have dreamed it."

CinemaBlend's Sean O'Connell added: "This is the best use of DC villains. Mind you, there aren't a lot of predecessors. But THIS is what a Suicide Squad needs to be."

Io9.com's Germain Lussier said: "What I liked best was its heart. Gunn really balances the silly and the serious in a way that the two compliment each other really well. I dug it."

The forthcoming DCEU film features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Margot Robbie, WWE icon John Cena, Idris Elba and Academy Award-winner Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

We'll get to see Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and 'everyone's favourite psycho, Harley Quinn' take on a new villain that has to be seen to be believed.

Director James Gunn said he had 'the most fun' making the R-rated flick.

He said earlier this year that he focused on making 'creativity' the 'ultimate priority' and tried to avoid 'perfectionism'.

"I was excited to do this suicide squad in the way it could be done from my point of view," he said.

"This is by far the biggest movie I have ever made... and will be different from any superhero movie ever made."

Given that Gunn previously directed two Guardians of the Galaxy films, it seems like comic book fans will be in for a treat.

The Suicide Squad is out only in cinemas on August 5.
