As the deliciously chaotic new season of Married At First Sight kicked off last month, social media went into overdrive upon meeting contestant Russell Duance.

The diesel mechanic from South Australia happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to Victorian Premier Dan Andrews.

You wouldn't think politicians have enough time to watch trashy TV, but it appears Mr Andrews is aware of his on-screen doppelgänger.

The Premier has offered his 'deepest sympathies' to the 37-year-old groom for having a similar head to him.

Speaking to Fifi Box, Brendon Fevola, and Nick Cody on their radio show this week, the leader was asked about the staggering resemblance.

"I was watching the premiere, the opening of MAFS, and this guy named Russell came on and I said to my wife Alex, 'That has to be Dan Andrews' twin brother'," Fevola told Andrews.

"Were you aware of this look-alike? He is exactly like you, mate!"

Dan replied: "It has been drawn to my attention."

"The gentlemen in question has my deepest sympathies. To have to wander around looking like me - and having people compare you - that's a tough gig."

According to his Channel Nine bio, Russell is described as a 'quintessential Aussie larrikin' who is most happy when he's 'downing a beer and eating a steak'.

Apparently, he also once proposed to a stranger on holidays, with their marriage lasting just one year. That is exactly the sort of uncomfortable spontaneity you'd expect from a contestant willing to marry a (likely very mismatched) stranger on national television.

He also, for whatever reason, has only recently discovered 'exotic' foods like kiwifruit and salmon.

The madness has only just begun, so we'll be keeping our eye on Russell in case he announces any snap lockdowns during the course of the series.
