Everyone knows Barney the Dinosaur is full of love and just wants everyone to be happy. But what happens when the cameras stop rolling?

That's exactly what Get Out actor Daniel Kaluuya wants to explore with his live-action movie about Barney.

In the most bizarre sounding movie plot of the decade, it seems like we are going to get a very dark version of the beloved children's entertainer.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Kaluuya said: "Barney taught us, 'I love you, you love me. Won't you say you love me too?' That's one of the first songs I remember, and what happens when that isn't true?

"I thought that was really heartbreaking. I have no idea why but it feels like that makes sense. It feels like there's something unexpected that can be poignant but optimistic. Especially at this time now, I think that's really, really needed."

Mattel

A dark version of Barney the Dinosaur sounds like a wild ride and not much else is known about the plot or what can be expected.

We don't know if it'll be an origin story of how Barney came to be or what happened to him when he went into retirement. Either one sounds like it will be epic.

We've been promised that 'I Love You' will be stuck in our heads and, to be honest, we can't wait.

In a separate statement when the project was initially announced this time last year, Kaluuya said: "Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood.

"We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of 'I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time."

Kaluuya will be teaming up with Mattel, who is the company behind the famous tyrannosaurus rex, and Valparaiso Pictures for the project.

Mattel Films' Robbie Brenner reckons the movie will 'surprise audiences' and 'subvert expectations'.

There's no indication when the film will be able to start shooting, whether there is a script or if anyone has even been cast yet. We'll have to wait and see if any more information pops up over the coming weeks and months and no doubt that first trailer will be very juicy.
