Dave Chappelle has opened up about the hate his Netflix standup show has copped from members of the trans community.

The comedian's show The Closer has attracted loads of headlines lately and even saw a group of Netflix staff walk off the job to demand better for trans people.

In the standup show, Chappelle spoke about J.K. Rowling getting cancelled for saying 'gender is a fact', which is a concept he agreed with.

He also made rogue jokes about how a trans woman's vagina isn't the same as a cis-gendered woman.

Netflix has said it won't be removing The Closer despite the backlash and Chappelle has since posted a snippet of his Untitled documentary, which dives into where he's at at the moment.

"This film that I made was invited to every film festival in the United States. Some of those invitations I accepted," he told the crowd.

"When this controversy came out about The Closer, they began disinviting me from these film festivals.

"And now today, not a film company, not a movie studio, not a film festival, nobody will touch this film. Thank God for Ted Sarandos and Netflix, he's the only one that didn't cancel me yet."

He explained that he's not backing down from what he said in the Netflix standup show and also disputed the claim that he rejected an invitation to meet with concerned Netflix staff.

However, he did reveal that he was happy to sit down with people from the trans community, but on several conditions.

"To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience, but you will not summon me," he said.

"I am not bending to anyone's demands. And if you want to meet with me, I am more than willing to, but I have some conditions.

"First of all, you cannot come if you have not watched my special from beginning to end. You must come to a place of my choosing at a time of my choosing, and thirdly, you must admit that Hannah Gadsby is not funny."

Gadsby is an Australian comedian who was one of many who criticised Chappelle for the content on The Closer.

Chappelle also alleged that he doesn't lay any blame on the trans community for voicing their outrage over what he said.

Instead he explained there was something else at play.

"I want everyone in this audience to know that even though the media frames it that it's me versus that community, that is not what it is," he said.

"Do not blame the LBGTQ [sic] community for any of this s**t. This has nothing to do with them. It's about corporate interests and what I can say and what I cannot say."
