It seems like it's been decades since we saw Ryan Reynolds put on the black and red suit to become the dirtiest and flyest character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

But, we've finally been given some news about the third instalment to the Deadpool movie franchise.

MCU boss Kevin Feige said it will live up to the hype and explained to Collider how badass it's going to be when it premieres - just don't hold your breath.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now," Feige said.

"It will not be [filming] this year. Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun.

"Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

It's unclear how exactly Wade Wilson will debut in the MCU and what familiar faces will help tie in the Deadpool storyline but no doubt that will all be explained in time.

The first two films in the Deadpool franchise were also rated R and anyone who has seen them will know producers took as much liberty to exercise that classification as possible.

The gore, swearing, jokes and everything in between definitely lived up to the R-rated hype. But how far will they push the envelope for the third film?

Another big question will be who else will be cast in the next instalment and will we get the same loveable characters that we saw in the first and second.

It's nice to see a major update from the Marvel headquarters about the state of the trilogy as news had become somewhat of a luxury.

In December 2019, Reynolds assured us that work was already underway on Deadpool 3 over at Marvel Studios, saying it felt 'crazy' to be working with the comics giant.

Sharing the update during an interview on Live With Kelly and Ryan, the actor said: "We're working on it right now with the whole team.

"We're over at Marvel [Studios] now, which is like the big leagues all of a sudden. It's kinda crazy. So yeah, we're working on it."

So now we just have to sit back, relax and hope to see Wade/Deadpool soon.
