The 1987 film Dirty Dancing is a well-loved classic - and now it's been revealed that an official sequel is on the way.

Yep, during an earnings call, Lionsgate announced we will be getting a follow-up to the OG movie and original star Jennifer Grey will feature in it.

Lionsgate CEO John Feltheimer said, via Deadline: "To reveal one of the worst kept secrets in Hollywood, we're pleased to confirm that Jennifer Grey will both executive produce and star in a new Dirty Dancing movie for Lionsgate from Warm Bodies director Jonathan Levine.

"It will be exactly the kind of romantic, nostalgic movie that the franchise's fans have been waiting for and that have made it the biggest-selling library title in the company's history."

The original movie raked in an impressive USD $220 million at the worldwide box office and it's hoped the sequel will bring even more now that Grey has attached herself to the project.

A sequel-of-sorts was released in 2004, titled Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights and set in the 1990s. It was a massive flop, however, and only brought in $27 million at the box office - it currently holds a score of 23 percent on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes.

Patrick Swayze, who played Johnny Castle in the original film, was paid $5m to make a cameo in Havana Nights.

Sadly, Swayze passed away in 2009 after battling cancer.

It's not clear how the new movie will relate to the original, but the news has sent fans into an absolute spin.

Could the sequel be about Grey's character Frances Houseman, aka Baby, going back to the Catskills resort to become a dance teacher? Could there be another iconic dance routine to top '(I've Had) The Time Of My Life'? Will Frances still be called Baby as an adult? Has she been put in the corner again?

So many questions, not enough time.

There's been no release date or production schedule listed for the sequel, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.
