Elvira Actor Cassandra Peterson Comes Out As Member Of LGBTQIA+ Community

Cassandra Peterson, the actor behind the iconic character of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, has lifted the lid on something she's kept hidden for nearly two decades.

She has opened up in her memoir, Yours Cruelly, Elvira, about her partner and how they met.

Peterson made a name for herself playing the spooky Elvira, a TV host who would wear dark, gothic clothing and make-up to present Elvira's Movie Macabre, a weekly B movie programme.

While she was married to her husband Mark Pierson for 25 years, she ended up getting attracted to a mystery trainer at the gym.

"Often, when I was doing my preworkout warm-up on the treadmill, I couldn't help noticing one particular trainer - tan, tattooed, and muscular - stalking across the gym floor, knit cap pulled so low over his long brown hair that it nearly covered his eyes," Peterson wrote in her memoir

"Dark and brooding, he gave off such intense energy that when he crossed the enormous gym floor, the waters parted and people stopped in their tracks to stare."

But Peterson quickly discovered that the trainer was in fact a woman named Teresa 'T' Wierson.

The actor maintained her friendship with T and it suddenly became more intense when she needed somewhere to stay and her marriage had ended.

"There on the doorstep stood my trainer, T, holding a trash bag full of her belongings, looking sad and bedraggled. She'd split from her longtime partner, spent some time in rehab, and now had no place to go," she wrote.

They pair ended up living with each other and Cassandra shocked herself when she found she was developing feelings for T.

"I think I was even more surprised. What the hell was I doing? I'd never been interested in women as anything other than friends," she said.

"I felt so confused. This just wasn't me! I was stunned that I'd been friends with her for so many years and never noticed our chemistry. I soon discovered that we connected sexually in a way I'd never experienced."

It certainly wasn't a fleeting feeling as the two have been together for the past 19 years.

However, Cassandra has opened up about how she wanted to tell the world.

"Would my fans hate me for not being what they expected me to be? I'm very aware that there will be some who will be disappointed and maybe even angry, but I have to live with myself, and at this point in my life, I've got to be truthful about who I am," she said.
