Harry Potter and the Deathly Weapons looks lit!

The Harry Potter movies are absolute gems and many of us grew up with the franchise as well as the book series.

As a result, any alteration to it is taken very seriously and many fans have a big problem with changes.

However, one dedicated fan has managed to tweak the concept of the film ever so slightly to create an arguably much better film.

They have managed to pour over Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone's 169 minutes of juicy content and replaced every scene containing a wand with a gun.

Even some scenes that have no wands present have pistols, assault rifles and shotguns super imposed onto the character's hands or arms.

The fan released a trailer to show you exactly how much hilarity can be gleaned by such a funny edit and the results speak for themselves.

They've described it as 'an unsanctioned, licensed content, feature-film-long JOKE with over 175 brand-spankin' new good-enough-looking special effects shots', and, look, they're not lying. It took them a whopping five years to complete.

Not only are their realistic weapons replacing wands, but bullets and blood are introduced instead of spells and magic. It creates a much more realistic and much more savage image of Hogwarts.

Characters gun each other down in Quidditch, Hermione takes no prisoners when she's confronted with an adversary (even Neville Longbottom), and Harry sprays bullets whenever he gets a chance.

The whole movie has been uploaded to a website dedicated to people who want to watch the whole thing from start to finish.

It's there that the editor explains the reasons behind their hilarious project.

"I understand your excitement. But just take a deep breath and accept this is a post modern world. Nothing is sacred; not books, not images, not news, not stories. Mix and match is the new medium. Work with video like clay. Change it after the fact; after you've baked it. Erase, paint over, restructure. Re-present in a new light," they said.

While it might seem funny to watch Harry, Ron and Hermione pull out .22s, the creator said there's a dark underbelly to making Harry Potter littered with firearms.

"Though this project started as a tasteless joke, in the wake of mass shootings and other daily horrors, we have to ask ourselves if Hollywood pushes guns too hard," they wrote.

"If gun owners in our society really value guns for their use, or just for their sexiness. There is no doubt a fascination with the firearm, just as there is an interest with war or death or serial killers.

"It reminds us of our mortality. It should make us respect every moment we have on this Earth and make it a better place for everyone. But I guess we love killing a bunch? And so we've glorified it in our media.

"We've made it cool to pull out a gun and empty a clip real quick, or reload in slow-motion. But at the end of the day, sexy or not, a gun is a machine designed to kill. It has one purpose: murder."

They have provided five ways to help address gun violence in America.
