Fans of The Fast and Furious franchise can mark April 2023 on their calendars for the next instalment.

Entertainment Weekly reports the 10th movie in the main storyline is set for release on April 7, provided the pandemic doesn't get in the way of production.

Vin Diesel has hinted the final arc of this incredible, heart-racing saga will be spread across two movies and filming could be completed back to back.

The star of the franchise said filming on the 10th movie is expected to get underway in January next year and suggested the finale will be worth it.

Universal Pictures

"Just wait for 10. Let's just say, the fact that you guys know that the studio is saying we can't cover all this ground that needs to be covered in just one movie, you can only imagine what is to come," he told EW's BINGE: The Fast Saga.

The saga's prominent actors, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges, and Sung Kang, are all expected to return for the final films, as well as director Justin Lin.

The star who is famously not going to reappear to bid farewell to The Fast and Furious franchise is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

Despite saying he and Vin Diesel had buried the hatchet and ended their long-running feud back in 2019, it looks like not everything can be mended.

Diesel recently said he was only giving The Rock some 'tough love' while shooting scenes together. But Johnson hit back at that claim.

He told SlashFilm: "I laughed and I laughed hard. I think everyone had a laugh at that. And I'll leave it at that. And that I've wished them well.

"I wish them well on Fast 9. And I wish them the best of luck on Fast 10 and Fast 11 and the rest of the Fast and Furious movies they do that will be without me."

The Rock insinuated that he could still appear in a Hobbes and Shaw sequel, however he won't be starring in the main event.

Vin Diesel said his 'tough love' approach was to get better performances out of his co-stars.

Speaking to Men's Health, the leading actor of the Fast and Furious saga explained how it was important for audiences to believe the character.

"My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be," the Hollywood star said.

"As a producer to say, 'Okay, we're going to take Dwayne Johnson, who's associated with wrestling, and we're going to force this cinematic world, audience members, to regard his character as someone that they don't know'."

Writers will no doubt be amping up the action for the final two films in The Rock's absence and, considering they went into space for Fast 9, you can only imagine what they have in store for Fast 10 and Fast 11.
