Jaxson Demsey was in the car with his family last weekend in Hazleton, Pennsylvania when he noticed his little sister acting strange.
The eight-year-old boy quickly realised his sibling was choking on the chicken nugget she was eating and, thankfully, knew exactly what he needed to do.
While it might be surprising that a boy so young would recognise the signs of choking, it was all thanks to John Cena.
The WWE wrestler-cum-actor appeared in a Nickelodeon special in disguise to educate kids on how to respond when someone's airway is blocked.
It wasn't a long segment on the kid's channel, but it was long enough to make an impact on young Jaxson.
The boy told WNEP: "We were driving to my haircut, and I noticed she was starting to choke from a chicken nugget from McDonald's. I told my dad to pull over. Then I was starting to pat on her back, and it got out.
"In the very first episode [of The Substitute], John Cena was on it, and in the last part, he showed how to save someone when they're choking."
The 20-month-old sister was able to cough up the food and she didn't suffer any issues after Jaxson's efforts.
The children's father, Matt, also told the TV network he was shocked how impactful a short PSA can be on young people.
"If I was by myself and Jaxson wasn't with me, and I stopped and gave her a chicken nugget, I couldn't hear her because she was choking. She wasn't coughing; she wasn't panicking. She just had no air going through; she wasn't breathing," Mr Dempsey said.
He also praised Jaxson for stepping up when his sister needed him most.
"Thank God Jaxson was there because, without him, I don't know if Lelia would be here."
"He amazes us every day, you know -- some of the things he says and does, and his actions," he told WNEP. "We're simply blessed to have the child that he is, the things that he does for his family, his friends, for his little sister. He's a good big brother."
