Kanye West has won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for Jesus Is King, despite appearing to urinate on one last year.

The rapper beat out the likes of Hillsong Young & Free, Tauren Wells, We the Kingdom, and Cody Carnes to win his 22nd Grammy.

It's interesting that the prestigious awards show honoured Kanye with the gong considering he hasn't spoken kindly of them in a while.

His disdain for the Grammys reached a new height last year when he uploaded a photo of supposedly him urinating on a Grammy Award that had been shoved into a toilet.

The video, which was posted on Twitter in September, was captioned: "Trust me ... I WONT STOP."

It was part of a social media rant that lasted for several days and focused on Kanye's battle with record companies and the way the music industry makes money off strict contracts.

He called on a number of stars to 'help' - oddly, even Taylor Swift.

His albums My Beautiful Dark Twitsed Fantasy Watch the Throne both missed out of the Album of the Year nominations for the Grammys in 2012. He wasn't best pleased at the fact, prompting him to bring it up at a concert.

He said: "Since when was making art about getting rich?...Remind me again why we in this s***? Remind me again why the Grammys [can] suck my d***."

Before that, back in 2015 - his infamous stage storm took place, when he complained that Beck had won an award over Beyoncé.

In a later interview he said: "The Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We aren't going to play with them no more. Beck needs to respect artistry, he should have given his award to Beyoncé."

He's not the only one - Drake and Frank Ocean have also both questioned the Grammys - Ocean even said that he didn't want his record to be considered for the 2017 awards.

Most recently The Weeknd said he won't be submitting his music for consideration for an award or nomination from the Grammys anymore.

Despite 'Blinding Lights' sitting on the charts for the majority of the year in 2020, as well as his album After Dark being critically acclaimed, the artist received no nominations.

He tweeted in November "The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency."

Grammys interim president Harvey Mason Jr told the New York Times: "We're all disappointed when anyone is upset. But I will say that we are constantly evolving. And this year, as in past years, we are going to take a hard look at how to improve our awards process, including the nomination review committees."
