Machine Gun Kelly has been given an icy reception at a music festival in the US.

The rockstar was performing at Louder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky, and footage of the performance shows he was booed by some people in the crowd.

Several audience members even started flipping him the middle finger.

The bad vibes erupted when MGK, real name Colson Baker, finished his song 'Concert for Aliens' and told everyone to put their hands in the air and for people to get on each other's shoulders.

But YouTube footage there was a vocal minority of people who weren't keen on seeing him sing.

Tempers escalated when the rapper-turned-rocker hopped down into the photo pit below the stage at the festival and was ambushed by two festival goers.

They hopped over the barricade and rushed over to the 31-year-old singer, who threw a punch at them.

Security swept in to move the audience members away and Machine Gun Kelly seemingly continued to perform.

It's unclear exactly what prompted the outrage at MGK, however it has come just after the artist got in a tit-for-tat with Slipknot's frontman Corey Taylor.

It all started when Corey seemingly threw shade at Machine Gun Kelly for trying to cross over genres to remain relevant.

In an interview with Cutter's Rockcast, Corey said: "I hate all new rock for the most part. I [hate] the artists who failed in one genre and decided to go rock and I think he knows who he is. But that's another story."

While he didn't use MGK's name, it seems like the rockstar took it personally and lobbed some choice words back.

Kelly used some time during his slot at Riot Fest to slag off Slipknot, telling the crowd: "Hey, you wanna know what I'm really happy that I'm not doing? Being 50 years old wearing a f**king weird mask on a f**king stage, talking s**t."

He also alleged Corey helped with a song for MGK but Baker said it was terrible.

A few days later, the Slipknot frontman explained their beef on Twitter.

"I don't like people airing private s**t like a child," he said. "So this is all I'll say: I didn't do the track because I don't like when people try to 'write' for me. I said NO to THEM.

"So without further ado.... #receipts. This is all I'm going to say about it."

The aforementioned 'receipts' appear to show messages from Kelly, stating that Taylor had 'f*****g killed it' and that he's 'stoked' and 'honoured' that he was going to be featured on the track.
