Matt Damon is clearly getting stuck into Australian culture if his latest TV interview is anything to go by.

The Hollywood star is in Australia filming Thor: Love and Thunder and it appears he wanted to enjoy a night off at a classic Aussie location.

When he dialled into have a chat with the hosts of NBC's Today show he was at the TAB section of a pub and was knocking back a schooner.

"I'm in Australia, I'm having a beer!" the 50-year-old said.

"The people at the local pub were nice enough to leave it open just so that I could do this, because they've got the best internet connection in this neighbourhood where I am."

7News says the actor was doing the interview from a pub in Bryon Bay and it was around 11pm local time.

The TV hosts seized on Damon's close personal and professional relationship with Ben Affleck to see if he knew anything about the rumours he was back with his ex.

There have been loads of photos crop up on the internet of Affleck and Jennifer Lopez hanging out and going on getaways following her split with Alex Rodriguez.

Affleck and Lopez dated for two years in the early 2000s and earned the nickname Bennifer.

When Damon was asked about the rumours they had rekindled their romance, he plead the fifth.

"There's not enough liquor in the world for you to get me to say something about that," Damon laughed. "It's the first time I've heard about it. It's a fascinating story.

"I love them both, I hope it's true, that would be awesome."

Matt recently revealed why he's one of the nicest guys in Hollywood by donating $10,000 to a domestic violence charity in Brisbane.

A woman who claimed to have been in attendance at the event and is the daughter of the charity's founder revealed in a Reddit post about the 50-year-old's generosity.

The post added that Damon and his wife were 'genuinely interested' in the issue of preventing domestic violence.

Safe Haven tweeted a message of support and thanks to the Damons for rocking up and injecting some star power to their cause.

"We had a great function today. Such a great success on so many levels because of the contribution of so many wonderful people, and then this generous person turns up to put the icing on the cake. Thank you Matt Damon," the charity wrote.

Matt wasn't the only big name at the 200-person event, with TV host Julia Zemiro, Queensland Attorney-General Shannon Fentiman, Maroons coach Paul Green and Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner also in attendance.

Damon's contribution helped Safe Haven raise an impressive $169,000.
