Legendary and maybe not-so-legendary Batman actors will be putting on the Caped Crusader's uniform again.

Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck have both signed on to return as Batman in The Flash movie.

Ezra Miller will star in the titular role and the film will be directed by Andy Muschietti, who was at the helm for the It and It Chapter Two movies.

Vanity Fair was the first to reveal Affleck's involvement with the reprisal, while The Wrap and The Hollywood Reporter broke the Keaton angle.

It appears they won't be simple cameos either. Audiences will be introduced to the idea of the DC multiverse, the concept which allows multiple stories to play out in different timelines or spaces, yet still be linked.

The idea of a multiverse has already been set up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with Avengers: Endgame introducing multiple different version of characters from different timelines.

Michael Keaton last chucked on the Batsuit in 1992's Batman Returns and Affleck played the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League.

While the latter didn't get much hype from the fans, the director of The Flash reckons he did an outstanding job.

Andy Muschietti told Vanity Fair: "His Batman has a dichotomy that is very strong, which is his masculinity - because of the way he looks, and the imposing figure that he has, and his jawline - but he's also very vulnerable.

"He knows how to deliver from the inside out, that vulnerability. He just needs a story that allows him to bring that contrast, that balance."

The Flash film is set for release in 2022, so we have a bit of waiting to do before we can expect any more information about what we can expect to see.
