Netflix has cancelled Cowboy Bebop after just one season.

Despite there being a lot of hype for the anime adaptation of the sci-fi western, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the streaming service won't be renewing it for a second instalment.

Not only is this a travesty for fans around the world in a general sense, but it's also devastating for those who want to know what happens after that huge cliffhanger at the end of season one.

The series starred John Cho, Mustafa Shakir, and Daniella Pineda, who were a trio of bounty hunters that flew through space on a ship called Bebop.

"They form a scrappy, snarky crew ready to hunt down the solar system's most dangerous criminals - for the right price. But they can only kick and quip their way out of so many scuffles before their pasts finally catch up with them," says the description on Netflix.

The producers used a variety of genres like noir, crime, and slapstick, as well as filming styles to bring he anime series to life on the small screen.

Cowboy Bebop wasn't well received by viewers as it only notched a 43 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes amongst critics and 56 per cent with viewers.

THR reports Netflix has a 60 per cent rate of renewing a scripted series for two or more seasons.
