We've finally been blessed with the information that will allow us to start the official countdown to season four of The Crown.

Netflix has revealed the incredible drama series will return for its fourth instalment on November 15.

Not only that, the streaming service has given us a sneak peek at what we will get to soak up for another few hours when it arrives.

The 30-second teaser gave us only hints of Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, while we got full shots of Olivia Coleman back in her iconic role of Queen Elizabeth II.

The short trailer opened with Coleman saying: "Something as important as the monarchy simply cannot be allowed to fail." We already have chills.

Tobias Menzies will return as Prince Philip and Helena Bonham Carter will reprise her role of Princess Margaret, however this will be the last time Coleman, Menzies, Corrin and Carter get to play them.

Imelda Staunton will take on the role of the Queen in season five, Lesley Manville will play Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce will portray Prince Philip and Elizabeth Debicki has been cast as Princess Diana.

We're leaving the swinging '60s behind in the third season, with the fourth to reveal what happened behind closed doors to the Royal Family in the '70s and '80s.

The new season will dive deep into Prince Charles and Princess Diana's romance and the twists and turns it takes as Camilla sticks around.

Netflix released a synopsis, saying: "Charles' romance with a young Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin) provides a much-needed fairytale to unite the British people, behind closed doors, the Royal family is becoming increasingly divided."

The battle between Margaret Thatcher and the Queen will also head up, 'as Thatcher leads the country into the Falklands War, generating conflict within the Commonwealth'. Ugh, it sounds so juicy.

Last month, it was revealed that Netflix had commissioned the show for a sixth and final season.

"News from the palace: we can confirm there will be a sixth (and final) season of @TheCrownNetflix, in addition to the previously announced five!" the streaming platform tweeted.

Writer and creator Peter Morgan added: "As we started to discuss the storylines for Series 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons.'"

Now we just have wait the agonising few months before November 15 arrives.
