If you love gangster films then the ultimate mobster movie is coming to Netflix. The Irishman stars a massive array of high-profile gangster stars such as Robert De Niro and is being directed by Martin Scorsese.
All of the legends in one place. Amazing.
The project is so massive that the streaming service has spent a whopping $173m (£143m) to make it happen. Speaking at the Marrakesh Film Festival Scorsese revealed that The Irishman - which he has been hoping to make since at least 2008 - is a "risky" film. He said: "People such as Netflix are taking risks. The Irishman is a risky film.

"No one else wanted to fund the pic for five to seven years. And of course we're all getting older. Netflix took the risk."
What's The Irishman about?
The Netflix film is based on a book called I Heard You Paint Houses by Charles Brandt. It follows Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran, a union official with connection to the mafia, who allegedly murdered his friend and controversial union leader Jimmy Hoffa, at the behest of the Bufalino crime family.

Sheeran met Hoffa while they were in their thirties, which means a big chunk of the budget was spent making respective actors Robert Di Niro and Al Pacino look younger.
Is it coming to cinemas?
Despite being a Netflix film, The Irishman will be coming to the big screen too, in a limited release. Robert De Niro told Marrakesh Film Festival 2018: "We've talked about it with Netflix.

"They are going to do a presentation of our film the way it should be, in a theatre, in certain venues, the best theatrical venues there can be.
"How they resolve it is, in the beginning, they will show it on the big screen. We're talking about big venues where it would play, where it should play, and what happens after that I'm not sure."
What's The Irishman release date?
The Irishman is set to be released in cinemas first and then released Netflix in late 2019. The film will premiere at New York Film Festival on September 27, 2019.

It will have its international premiere at the BFI London Film Festival 2019 on October 13, 2019.
During a chat with Joe Rogan, actor Sebastian Maniscalco let it slip that the Netflix release wouldn't be far behind. When Joe asked when he could expect the film to come out, Maniscalco replied: "It's coming out in October."
