The director for the sixth and final season of the incredible Peaky Blinders has revealed it will be coming sooner than expected.

We haven't yet been told exactly when we can expect to see the award-winning show on our streaming services, except that it will premiere sometime in the first half of next year.

Well, whenever the BBC and Netflix were planning on dropping the next instalment, it looks like that date might have been brought forward.

Director Anthony Byrne wrote on Instagram: "We're coming for you sooner than you think."

The end of the teaser simply says 'Early 2022', so let's hope that means the first three months because fans will probably not want to wait a minute longer.

Filming on the sixth and final season wrapped up about six months ago and the crew has been working meticulously to get it ready for audiences around the world ever since.

The show's creator, Steven Knight, revealed last month that he was looking at a spring-time release, which, for people in the Northern Hemisphere, means sometime between March and May next year.

During a panel at the BFI London Film Festival, Knight also opened up about the future of the Peaky Blinders franchise once the TV show was all finished.

"I am going to write the feature [film] which will be set in and shot in Birmingham," Knight said, according to Variety. "And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it."

Knight said production for the movie will begin some time in 2023, meaning it's likely we could see the film on the big screen the following year.

But he also mentioned that there could be 'shows related' to the Peaky Blinders world.

That means there could be some prequels into characters who have been lost during the show or there could be a series that follows individuals who manage to survive beyond season six and the movie.

Saying goodbye to a franchise that is loved around the world won't be easy and the protagonist knows that all too well.

Speaking to Men's Health, Cillian Murphy, who plays Thomas Shelby, said it will be weird to finally hang up his cap.

"It'll be very strange. I think probably when I stop, like a few months in, I'll have to process the fact that I may not play him again. I'll have to deal with that. But right now, I'm just still in it," he said.
