Ricky Gervais has been a longtime advocate for animal rights and welfare.

The comedian and spoken out about hunting of any kind and has actively called out those who boast about killing animals.

He's so keen on protecting future generations of animal species that he's keen to be devoured by one when he dies.

Speaking to Conan O'Brien on his talkshow, Gervais said he wants to 'give back' to the planet.

"It would be good to be fed to lions at London Zoo. It would be good to give something back," he said.

"We eat animals and destroy habits and at least then I could give something back. It would be amusing to see the faces of tourists when this fat, naked dead body is thrown out and as it lands some people go, 'Is that the bloke from The Office?"

During their chat, Conan asked whether Ricky had thought much about death and his impending end.

Gervais revealed he's fine with the concept and touched on why comedians like to delve into it when they're doing standup.

"We're all going to die. I don't care about being dead because I won't know about it.," he said.

"Comedians are drawn to death as it is the last taboo and makes people feel uncomfortable. I like taking people to the dark side, it's like taking them through a scary forest. No harm can come from going through taboo subjects."

While many know Ricky for his hilarious comedy, he has been using his voice to campaign for hunting to be banned.

Gervais told the Sun last year: "Why are we even having to make the case for banning trophy hunting in the year 2020?

"It's hard to think of anything more sickening or senseless than killing an animal for entertainment, then hacking it up so you can display its body parts and brag about it.

"Trophy hunting is humanity at its very worst. We've had five years to do something since the killing of Cecil made everyone aware of what is going on."

Shocking statistics from the African Wildlife Foundation, suggest that unless trophy hunting is banned lions could become extinct outside of captivity as soon as 2050.

The After Life writer and actor has also thrown his support behind the banning of wildlife wet markets and has backed calls for the UK government to ban experiments on dogs.
