Friends is quickly approaching its 25th anniversary, which is making a lot of people feel very old. Everyone has their own say on who the best character was - some people loved a bit of the Buffay, others were Chandler fans, but very few were proud to say that they loved Ross Geller.

He's criminally underrated to say the least as he was involved in some of the show's most iconic moments. Remember he went out and bought himself a monkey? Or the time he and Chandler tried to get a sofa down a stairwell. 'PIVOOOOT. PIVOOOOT. PIVOOOOT'. Or the catchphrase, 'We were on a break!'. You get the idea.

We think it's time for people to realise that Ross deserves more credit, so here's a little bit about the character, Google's tribute to him and the actor himself, David Schwimmer.

The Friends Character

Ross grew up in Long Island, N.Y., in a competitive household thanks to his sister, Monica. His childhood scarred him for life and he often dreamt about an overweight Monica eating him alive.

He worked as a palaeontologist at the Museum of Natural History. He has a tendency to get upset when his friends don't appear to be interested in his work.

Over the show, he went through a LOT of relationships. He married three separate women despite the fact that he was always in love with his childhood crush, Rachel Green. Who can blame him to be fair?

His first wife left him for a woman, so it's fair to say that he didn't have the best of luck with the opposite sex.

Google's Easter Egg

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Friends, Google paid tribute to the actors in the show in the form of Easter eggs. Not the chocolate kind, the kind you're supposed to stumble on accidentally. If you type a character's name into the search bar and press enter, you'll be able to view it.

If you type in Ross Geller for example, you'll spot a picture of a couch on the page. If you click on it, it'll trigger a soundbite from the classic 'pivot' scene. You just said it in his voice, didn't you? If you click it enough times it'll break in half and you'll hear him say, "Okay, I don't think it's going to pivot anymore". If you keep clicking it all your mates in your office will hate you and tell you to shut the f*** up.

David Schwimmer

David Lawrence Schwimmer was born 2 November, 1966 and is an American actor, director, activist, and producer. He grew up in Los Angeles and appeared on TV shows such as The Wonder Years and NYPD Blue before landing his most famous role as Ross Geller on Friends in 1994. Following the hit sitcom's 10-year run, Schwimmer starred in theatre productions and directed the feature films Run Fat Boy Run and Trust. In 2016, he portrayed lawyer Robert Kardashian for the first season of American Crime Story, about the murder trial of O.J. Simpson.

The actor himself is known to have a great sense of humour too after he responded hilariously when a lookalike was spotted nicking a crate of beer in Blackpool.
