Ryan Reynolds has announced he's taking a break from acting.

The Canadian superstar has had one hell of a busy year promoting and filming three separate projects, and it's safe to say he needs a little time off.

He's just wrapped up filming Spirited, which is an Apple TV+ Christmas movie starring Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer and it looks like an all-singing, all-dancing fun fare.

But shooting scenes for the movie, as well as promoting Free Guy, Red Notice and The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, has clearly taken its toll.

Reynolds posted on Instagram: "That's a wrap for me on Spirited. Not sure I'd have been ready to say yes to a film this challenging even three years ago.

"Singing, dancing and playing in the sandbox with Will Ferrell made a whole lotta dreams come true. And this is my second film with the great @octaviaspencer.

"Perfect time for a little sabbatical from movie making. I'm gonna miss every second working with this obscenely gifted group of creators and artists.

"These days, kindness matters as much as talent. I've been lucky to work with folks who are flush with both."

He added in an Instagram story that said he will largely be using this time off to focus on parenting.

Many will be wondering whether this will affect the rollout of Deadpool 3 and it's unlikely Reynolds will get in the way of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's schedule.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Collider earlier this year that filming for the movie won't get underway until 2022.

That means there's plenty of time for Reynolds to enjoy his sabbatical before he's called up to be the Merc with a Mouth again.

"It will be rated R and we are working on a script right now, and Ryan's overseeing a script right now... It will not be [filming] this year," Feige said.

"Ryan is a very busy, very successful actor. We've got a number of things we've already announced that we now have to make, but it's exciting for it to have begun.

"Again, a very different type of character in the MCU, and Ryan is a force of nature, which is just awesome to see him bring that character to life."

Reynolds, who explained in August that he has 'no sense of time', offered some insight into the writing process for the script for the third instalment to the Deadpool franchise, which is being conducted by Bob's Burgers writing team Lizzie and Wendy Molyneux.

He told Collider: "It's something that is just a daily process. Writing is kind of like that, you've gotta allot time to do it and walk away, and I'm working with the Molyneuxs on it, it's been great,

"They're incredibly talented and so, so smart. They so understand that world and know how to zig when everyone's expecting a zag, so it's been a lot of fun."

He's previously said that Deadpool 3 will go in a 'completely different direction' to the other two films, which would explain the 'zig-versus-zag' analogy there.
