Showtime has revealed the Dexter reboot will officially premiere on November 7.

After waiting many months for a date, the network has finally given us the release date.

They've also dropped an actual trailer that isn't just a bunch of teaser clips designed to make us salivate at the thought of more Dexter Morgan.

Still dubbed a teaser trailer, it shows our favourite serial killer seemingly talking to a therapist about his 'whirlwind' life.

But then it cuts to Dexter with his new identity living in his chilly, snowy new town and it looks like everyone likes him.

While it starts off all rosy, Michael C. Hall's character explains that he is terrified that someone in the area will expose him for his past horrors.

When we last saw Dexter Morgan, he was busy faking his own death and therefore in need of a new identity.

And it looks like he's found one in Jim Lindsay.

The reboot is officially called Dexter: New Blood and it looks like it's going to be one hell of a wild ride.

Speaking ahead of the return, Showtime's co-president of entertainment Gary Levine, said: "Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago.

"We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series.

"Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can't wait to shoot it and show it to the world."

The show's star said he wanted to use this as an opportunity to do right by the fans.

Discussing why Dexter was coming back now, Hall told the Daily Beast: "It's a conversation that's been ongoing, and different possibilities have emerged over the years.

"I think in this case, the story that's being told is worth telling in a way that other proposals didn't, and I think enough time has passed where it's become intriguing in a way that it wasn't before."

"And let's be real: people found the way that show left things pretty unsatisfying, and there's always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling."

Showtime has only order 10 episodes for this revival and hasn't indicated whether this will officially bid farewell to Dexter Morgan or whether there could be more seasons ahead.
