Spider-Man: No Way Home has pulled in the third highest opening at the box office in cinematic history.

The third instalment of Tom Holland's trilogy as Peter Parker and the web-slinging superhero has been incredibly anticipated and it's clear audiences have been charging through the ticket sales since it premiered last week.

It's managed to rake in $253 million at the box office from 4,336 theatres across North America.

When combined with the $334.2 million from theatres around the world, No Way Home pulled in an incredible $587.2 million.

It's easily the highest grossing film of 2021 and 2020 and far exceeded its own expectations.

Variety reports the movie was forecast to bring in $130 to $150 million at the North American market over the opening weekend. It drew $121 million in its first day alone.

The appetite to see the film can be partly boiled down to diehard fans wanting to feast their eyes on the film before getting any spoilers on the internet.

No Way Home sits behind Avengers: Endgame ($1.2 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War ($640 million) for largest box office opening weekends.

Tom Rothman, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO, said: "This weekend's historic Spider-Man: No Way Home results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve."

People who have been lucky enough to see it have been absolutely raving about it.

One viewer had to say: "Spider-Man: No Way Home was so f***ing AMAZING. Growing up a diehard and the biggest Spider-Man fan, I am so f***ing happy right now. It delivered everything I ever wanted in a SM movie.

"That was the best Spider-Man movie, potentially the best Marvel and CBM ever...

"Perfect balance of story, drama, humour, nostalgia, and so much more.

"Hats off to everyone involved in this movie. I am so over the moon happy right now. Thank you, Marvel. I love superheroes. I love Spider-Man."

Movie critic Michael Patterson said: "Spider-Man: No Way Home is an emotional rollercoaster. There aren't enough adjectives to describe how much of an adventure it is, but 'a marvel' feels appropriate.

"One of the best Marvel movies ever made... and then some."

Another user wrote: "Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the best marvel movies of all time! Truly an amazing and spectacular experience.

"Tom Holland absolutely killed it in the movie, easily his best performance as Spider-Man. This is an event film for the ages, the best superhero film of the year."
