Stephenie Meyer Plans To Write Two More Twilight Books

The saga continues...

Hot off the back of the success of Midnight Sun, it looks like Twilight fans will have something else to look forward to.

Earlier this month, the highly-anticipated fifth novel in the saga was released to much fanfare, with loads of readers rushing to bookstores to get a copy.

The new book, which has been more than a decade in the making, tells the same story as Twilight, but from Edward Cullen's perspective.

But if you thought that was going to be the only novel to be released by Stephenie Meyer, you'd be wrong.

Stephenie Meyer

The author has revealed she has plans to expand the universe we all know and love, however don't hold your breath on it coming any time soon.

Speaking to USA Today, Meyer said: "There are two more books I think in the world that I want to write. I have got them outlined and a chapter written I think of the first one, so I know it's there.

"I am not ready to do that right now, I want to do something brand new. For me, a lot of the joy of writing comes from creating and I really want to do a new world and new rules and new mythology. Mythology is kind of my thing."

It's hard to know whether this is a good or bad thing: new Twilight books are definitely coming, but probably not for a few years. If you're reading Midnight Sun then you'll probably want to read a little slower just so that you aren't waiting for ages.

At least we know it's not the end of Edward, Bella and everyone else in Forks, Washington.

We almost didn't even get Midnight Sun.

Meyer says she thought long and hard about releasing the book amid the current Covid-19 pandemic, but realised it would give readers something to look forward to in these bleak times.

"It feels strange to be making this announcement when the world is suffering through a pandemic, and no one really knows what's next. I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal; however, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited," she said.

"I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to, and most of all, how much I need more books to read. So, I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while.

The original vampire-themed fantasy romance saga was comprised of four books, released annually between 2005 and 2008, and they were a huge international hit, selling more than 100 million copies.
