Steve Burns From Blue's Clues Delivers Beautiful Message To The Show's Audience Who Grew Up

"After all these years, I never forgot you...ever."

It was an absolutely heart-wrenching moment when Steve Burns left as host of Blue's Clues back in 2002 to go to college.

However, the actor has stunned everyone with a new video posted by Nickelodeon explaining why he left. You can watch it below:

Dressed in an updated striped jumper, the former host popped up rather unexpectedly and asked: "Hi, you got a second?

"You remember how when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue, and find clues, and talk to Mr. Salt, and freak out about the mail, and do all the fun stuff?

"And then one day, I was like, 'Oh hey, guess what? Big news... I'm leaving'."

Steve recognised that while he told his young fans he was only off to college, he didn't come back for 'like, a really long time'.

"Can we just talk about that?" he said in the video.

He said going to college was a really incredible time for him because it gave him the space and time to develop his life outside the show that made him a household name.

Then he addressed the idea that his fans in the '90s and '00s would be all grown up now.

"Look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time," he said.

"And it's just... it's just so amazing, right? I mean, we started out with clues and now it's what? Student loans, and jobs, and families, and some of that has been kind of hard, you know? I know you know.

"I wanted to tell you that I really couldn't have done all of that without your help. And in fact, all the help that you helped me with when we were younger is still helping me today, right now. And that's super cool.

"I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you. Ever. And I'm super glad we're still friends."

Unsurprisingly, the heartfelt and candid message has ripped everyone to pieces.

After filming more than 100 episodes for Blue's Clues, Steve admitted that he needed to do other things in life and that's why he left just after the turn of the century.

In an interview after his departure from the kid's show, he also opened up on ageing in front of the camera.

He said in the documentary special Behind the Clues: 10 Years with Blue: "I knew I wasn't gonna be doing children's television all my life, mostly because I refused to lose my hair on a kid's TV show, and it was happenin' - fast."

He was eventually replaced by actor Donovan Patton, who managed to nab the role of Steve's on-screen brother over 1,500 other applicants.

Who would have thought a children's TV entertainer could shine a light of hope and purity during a time like this.
