We've been given a release date; we've been given a bunch of photos from the set; we've been given a plot. But we've had to wait for seemingly an eternity for a full trailer...until now.

Netflix has been very kind in delivering an in-depth look at what we can expect from the new series and it looks absolutely spine-tingling.

In the trailer we hear the Wingraves' nanny tell young Flora: "Your parents loved you so, so much. In a way, they will always be here."

Later we see her washing up as a mysterious pair of hands close in around her waist, as housekeeper Mrs Grose confesses that it feels like she's 'having somebody else's dream' - only to have her head yanked back by some otherworldly force.

In short, it doesn't look like the Wingraves or their hired help are having too nice a time at Bly Manor, meaning it's unlikely that we will either.

Of course, this series is the follow up to the wildly successful The Haunting of Hill House, which left everyone on the edge of their seats.

The official synopsis for Bly Manor is as follows: "From The Haunting of Hill House creator Mike Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy comes The Haunting Of Bly Manor, the next highly anticipated chapter of The Haunting anthology series, set in 1980s England and based on Henry James' 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw.

"After an au pair's tragic death, Henry Wingrave (Henry Thomas) hires a young American nanny (Victoria Pedretti) to care for his orphaned niece and nephew (Amelie Bea Smith, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) who reside at Bly Manor with the estate's chef Owen (Rahul Kohli), groundskeeper Jamie (Amelia Eve) and housekeeper, Mrs Grose (T'Nia Miller).

Flanagan said the new series will feature 'some familiar faces' and, like its predecessor, will be 'rife with chills, thrills, and things that go bump in the night'.

But while the The Haunting of Hill House, was ultimately a story of grief, trauma, and familial strife, our new adventure will have a 'love story' at its heart.

"In Henry James' world, 'romance' [...] meant mystery and excitement - and Gothic Romance meant horror and ruin," Flanagan said in a statement earlier this month.

"Romance held buried secrets, supernatural agony, and the sense of encroaching doom.

"Gothic Romance, it turns out, has teeth... and we have had a blast sharpening them for you all."

The Haunting of Bly Manor lands on Netflix on 9 October.
