Disney+ found success with its Star Wars spin-off show The Mandalorian - not least because of the fan fave character known as Baby Yoda - so it's no surprise a second season got the greenlight.

It's also no surprise that fans are already strapped in for the ride following season two's premiere on Disney+ last week, as the show hit the ground running and delivering a few surprises along the way (that we won't spoil).

Viewers were also delighted to see the return of fan favourite The Child - aka Baby Yoda - whose debut in season one saw an explosion of memes featuring the adorable star.

With a smorgasbord of surprises, cameos, and action, fans are already on the edge of their seat waiting for the second episode of the new season to drop on Disney+ today, with on fan Tweeting:

"I would like to interrupt the regularly scheduled social media programming of finger pointing, and name calling about the election and say thank you in advance to @disneyplus for giving me hope in S2E2 of @themandalorian tomorrow! We now return you to reality."

It comes following creator Jon Favreau hyping fans with the news that he had big plans to go 'deeper' with the show for round two.

Discussing what's in store during a virtual panel for the ATX Television Festival, he said: "[We're] hopefully building on what people loved about the first season, and it's just felt like one continuous production.

"Because of the rhythm of television, it's not like you get to stop. I think we started filming [season 2] the day after it aired for the first time. So it doesn't feel like the next season, it feels like we're continuing.

"As we explore partnering with new filmmakers and having new characters and going deeper with the characters we already have, it's really been very fun and fulfilling and I hope people are having as much fun seeing it as we are having making it."

The Mandalorian composer Ludwig Göransson remained cryptic about what's in store for the anticipated season two, although he did allude to a new direction for the storyline.

In an interview with Deadline, he said: "We started a couple of months ago, and I'm extremely excited. Jon's taking the story into places that I didn't know existed, and I think it's so fun."

The composer went on to describe his experience working on the first season, stating: "I was so lucky on the show, where every episode, we recorded with a 70-piece orchestra, with the LA Studio Symphony at Fox."

The Mandalorian stars Game of Thrones alumnus Pedro Pascal as the mysterious bounty hunter known simply as 'Mando', with veteran actor Carl Weathers as Greef Karga and Werner Herzog as The Client.

Meanwhile, Hollywood heavyweight Nick Nolte and Jojo Rabbit director Taika Waititi lend their voices to Kuiil and IG-11, respectively.

As for the fan fave - "Baby Yoda is voiced by a combination of baby samples, bat-eared foxes and kinkajous," according to a tweet from Lucasfilm sound designer Matt Wood.

While the coronavirus pandemic has thrown a spanner in the works for many film and TV projects, thankfully the second instalment of the Disney+ series hasn't suffered the same fate.

Favreau went on to say during the virtual panel: "We were lucky enough to have finished photography before the lock down.

"Thanks to how technology-forward Lucasfilm and ILM are, we have been able to do all of our visual effects and editing and post production remotely through systems that had been set up by those companies for us."

The first two episodes of The Mandalorian Season 2 are available now on Disney+, with new episodes dropping on Fridays.
