The Remastered Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Gets Released Today

The classic games have been given a 2021 update and they look absolutely glorious.

Rockstar Games is gearing up to release the highly-anticipated remastered versions of Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas.

While some gamers would have preferred to have seen a sixth instalment to the iconic saga, we're getting updated versions of arguably the most legendary titles.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition will feature an overhauled UI and improved gameplay features that make it feel more like GTA V.

According to GAMINGbible, each of the games has retained its 'unique PS2-era style' but it now has 2021 graphical enhancements.

"But more importantly, they look much, much better to play," writes Ewan Moore. "A GTA V-style weapon wheel, improved gun controls, and more all make for what looks to be a way smoother experience."

The games will be available to play on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Ahead of the games dropping later today (November 11), Rockstar Games uploaded a bunch of animated images to Giphy to illustrate just how incredible the graphics are for these old stories.

One of the best illustrations of the remaster is the 'Aw s**t, here we go again' moment from GTA: San Andreas where CJ Johnson talks about how he's now in dodgy territory.

"Worst place in the world. Rollin' Heights Balla country. I ain't represented Grove Street in five years, but the Ballas won't give a s**t," he said in the game.

The moment was uploaded by Rockstar Games because it's become an iconic meme in recent years.

It certainly wasn't anything special when the game dropped back in 2004, however Know Your Meme notes how a YouTuber named ZMOONCHILD posted a clip of the scene in 2015 and it went viral after that.

History aside, the imagery of CJ walking down the alleyway looks superbly crisp in the remaster, with his surroundings now gloriously detailed and given proper perspective.

Strauss Zelnick, boss of Take-Two, Rockstar Games' parent company, explained earlier this year that remastering the classics have taken priority over bringing out a new title.

"Remastering has always been a part of the strategy," he said. "We've done differently than the competition - we don't just port titles over, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the new release, for the new technology that we're launching it on.

"So, we improve the technology, we upgrade the visuals, and we make performance enhancements. And that's why I think our remastered titles typically do so well."
