The Weeknd has lashed out at the Grammys after the artist received zero nominations.

Despite his album After Hours being considered a critical and commercial success in 2020 and despite 'Blinding Lights' sitting on top of the charts for weeks on end, the singer was snubbed by the award's show.

As a result, he's taken to Twitter to write: "The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency..."

It was the biggest upset when nominations were released on Tuesday November 24.

His 2020 album was praised by people all over the world, with Consequence of Sound's Candace McDuffie writing: "As he evolves, he continues to reinvent himself, and he knows exactly how to leave fans hooked on havoc. And After Hours is proof that he's not done with us yet; in fact, he's just getting started."

The album recently won Favorite Album - Soul/R&B at the 2020 American Music Award and has been nominated for a raft of other.

The single 'Blinding Lights' peaked at number one in 34 countries, including the United States and Canada, It also was his first number one single in Germany for 10 weeks, the United Kingdom for eight weeks, and Australia for 11 weeks, making it his most successful single worldwide to date.

But The Weeknd wasn't the only one unhappy about the outcome.

Justin Bieber, arguably one of the biggest pop stars in the world, was fuming that he was nominated for a pop category instead of R&B.

Taking to Instagram, the Canadian artist explained that when he was making Changes, he intended it to be categorised as R&B and not pop.

"I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album. Changes was and is an R&B album. It is not being acknowledged as an R&B album which is very strange to me," he said.

"I grew up admiring R&B music and wished to make a project that would embody that sound. For this not to be put into that category feels weird.

"Please don't mistake this as me being ungrateful, these are just my thoughts take em or leave em."
