The man behind legendary and disturbing movies as Hereditary and Midsommar says his next project will be four hours long.

Anyone who has seen Ari Aster's work will know that it is emotionally draining (in a good way, kind of) because he takes the viewer on such a journey.

So you better buckle up for an absolute epic if he makes good on his promise.

Ari has told UC Santa Barbara's Associated Students Program Board that he wants his next film to be around four hours.

He's also teased that he wants it to be a 'zonky nightmare comedy'. That sounds like a mixture of fun and terrifying - especially with Aster at the helm.

There's no indication when the project will be allowed to start filming or if there's even a script and cast ready to go.

But if it's anything like Midsommar then you can certainly get ready for something that is truly outrageous. The film, which was released last year, clocked in just under three hours and many felt like they had lived several lifetimes after watching it (again, in a good way).

Midsommar was terrifying.

But there were plenty of viewers who couldn't shake what they had seen in the cinema.

The horror follows a couple and their two friends as they travel to a rural town in Sweden for a festival in the middle of the summer solstice. But - as you could probably guess - the festival doesn't turn out to be the idyllic retreat they'd hoped for; rather, they find themselves in the clutches of a barbaric and sinister cult.

People took to social media to express how the dark and gloomy film made them feel.

So, if you like the idea of being scarred for life and you don't really care for sleep, Midsommar could be the film for you.

If not, then you could always wait until Ari Aster gets his next project up and running and then we could hopefully get the man falling off the cliff or the guy in the bear suit burning to death out from our brains.

That would be nice.
