Madonna Rips Into Instagram For Deleting Images Of Her That Showed Her Nipple

The singer raged against the social media site for censoring her body and asked why men aren't treated the same.

Madonna has showed she's an ardent supporter of the #FreeTheNipple movement after a series of pictures were deleted from her Instagram.

The social media network is fairly strict went it comes to the presentation of a woman's nipple and will censor images of the body part because it's considered 'sexually explicit'.

The 63-year-old singer was pulled up by Instagram after she uploaded 10 pictures of her laying and playing around in a bed.

In two shots her nipple was exposed and, according to the 'Hung Up' artist, the whole post was taken down.

She's since uploaded a more safe-for-work version of the offending pictures, but she's also launched a scathing attack on the social media site.

"I'm reposting photographs Instagram took down without warning or notification," she said.

"The reason they gave my management that does not handle my account was that a small portion of my nipple was exposed.

"It is still astounding to me that we live in a culture that allows every inch of a woman's body to be shown except a nipple. As if that is the only part of a woman's anatomy that could be sexualized.

"The nipple that nourishes the baby!

"Can't a mans [sic] nipple be experienced as erotic ??!! And what about a woman's a** which is never censored anywhere.

"Giving thanks that I have managed to maintain my sanity through four decades of censorship...... sexism......ageism and misogyny.

"Perfectly timed with the lies we have been raised to believe about the pilgrims peacefully breaking bread with the Native American Indians when they landed on Plymouth Rock! God bless America."

Technically, she's not wrong. It is strange that men's nipples continue to go uncensored yet women's have to be covered up because they somehow exhibit sexuality.

The whole breast doesn't even have to be covered up; it's just the nipple.

Women have long raged against Instagram for their nipple policy and they've lent their voice to the #FreeThe Nipple movement, which has been advocating for the freedom to show an uncensored nipple.

Instagram has previously blamed their no-nipple policy on Apple's App Store, and said if they started showing nips then they could get taken off the store.

The social media network has a 12+ rating on the App Store and they said they would have to get elevated to 17+ if nudity were to be allowed, however that doesn't really stack up when Twitter, which hosts loads of racy content, is rated 4+.
