WWE legend Triple H is recovering after suffering from a cardiac event.

A statement from the WWE Executive Vice President, Global Talent Strategy & Development said: "Paul Levesque, a.k.a. Triple H, underwent a successful procedure last week at Yale New Haven Hospital following a cardiac event.

"The episode was caused by a genetic heart issue and Paul is expected to make a full recovery."

The news has resulted in a flood of messages from fans around the world.

Despite his age, Triple H hasn't shied away from getting into the ring every now and then.

However, three years ago he saw what can happen when he's not careful with his body.

'The Game' - as he's known to the WWE faithful - suffered an extremely painful tear to his pectoral muscles during a match at the WWE Crown Jewel event in 2018.

HHH managed to tough it out to the end of the match and even picked up a win for his team, which included 'The Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels.

The two managed to scrape to victory against The Undertaker and Kane but Triple H's real battle was faced after the match when the doctors told him the extent of his injuries.

After the fight ended, he shared the picture with the caption: "Surgery in the AM...makes you stronger."

Last year, he 'unofficially' retired from professional wrestling .

When asked about the chances an in-ring return, the 14-time world champion told The Bill Simmons Podcast: "Right now, zero. I just feel like there's a moment where you go, 'I'm retired', but you're not.

"I'd rather just not say it and if the right opportunity comes up that everybody believes is right, and I believe I can do it without it falling apart, me or the match, then okay, I would consider it.

"I am not at a point where I would say, 'Absolutely not, under any circumstances, but probably not that far off.'

"The thing for me that's good is I'm so transitioned over and satisfied with the other aspects of my career and my life and everything else, I get as much fun and excitement out of watching others do it and succeed at it."

Since stepping away from full-time activity in 2010, 'The Game' has transitioned to a backstage role.

He serves as Executive Vice President of Global Talent Strategy & Development as well as Executive producer of the promotion's third brand, NXT.
