WWE Star Paige Slams Body Shamers As She Bares All In New Instagram Post
| Last updated
Paige, whose real name is Saraya Bevis, is known as a leader, icon and all-round trailblazer in the WWE Universe. Despite suffering from a career-ending injury back in December 2017, the two-time WWE Divas Champion has continued to thrive in the wrestling business by transforming herself into an authority figure and tag team manager.
The injury took place during a six-woman tag match after she took a hard kick to the back of the head from co-star Sasha Banks. When asked if she's ever return to the ring, she took to Twitter to confirm that she had spinal stenosis. She said: "Unfortunately it isn't that easy. I have 3 screws from the prior surgery and after the accident I had in the ring after I got spinal stenosis. I wish though, I miss it everyday."
Her incredible story was even turned into a film earlier this year - Fighting With My Family - which starred Vince Vaughn, Lena Headey, The Rock and Nick Frost, among others. Florence Pugh starred as the young Paige, who left her Norfolk home to pursue her dream of making it in the WWE - against all the odds.
Her powerful statement reads: "Because of the business I'm in we have an enormous spotlight on us. Which along with it comes wonderfully incredible things, but also some bad. One thing is weight. For the past 8 years I've struggled with how I've wanted my body.
"Mostly because of the "sweet" people on the internet sees that as soon as you put on a pound or lose it they jump on the judging bad wagon, then say, "you should expect criticism because of the career path you chose" you should NEVER go out of your way to make someone feel bad about themselves. Even if they are in the "spotlight" .. I've hit my lowest weight and hit my biggest weight in just the space of 2 years.
"But I stopped caring what people said a while ago. Helps when you surround yourself with positive people and positive influencers. I know you hear it from me about my bf but he's a real driving force behind my healthier and happier lifestyle. Along with the best friends and family I could ever imagine. Long story short. F*** what people think and you'll be a lot happier "
Well said. The post already has over 230k likes and 2,594 comments, with her fans providing some much-needed positivity.
Deborahluna4727 said: "I love you just the way you are, I'm such a big fan, you've got this baby, the haters are so jealous."
largeinthestreets replied: "I like Paige because I like Paige not what she weighs"
Paige's post will resonate with millions of people around the world and we're glad that someone is using their fame to tackle such a sensitive issue.
Paige officially retired from in-ring competition due to injury on April 9. But she continues to be one of WWE's biggest names -and greatest ambassadors.
