Arctic Monkeys Have Been Teased To Play 'Mad Cool Festival' In Spain

The Sheffield indie rock heroes are rumoured to be playing the July festival after Mad Cool shared a cryptic vid via their Instram account.

People have already gotten mega excited after Arctic Monkeys's first 2018 tour date was announced last week. Now it looks like their second one isn't too far away either.

The English indie rock heroes are increasingly rumoured to be playing the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, which takes place in the Valdebebas-Ifema on 12 - 14 July this year.

The rumour mill went into overdrive after Mad Cool shared a cryptic video via their social media accounts, obliquely referencing a number which Arctic Monkeys fans will recognise.

In a recent Twitter post (embedded above), the organisers of the festival posted a video containing the digits 0114. That's the area dialling code for AM's hometown of Sheffield, and the number drummer Matt Helders often has on his drum kit during the band's gigs. Is that a potential giveaway?

That isn't the only hint that Mad Cool Festival has dropped that the Arctic Monkeys are coming to town. Earlier this month, the festival announced its pretty awesome line-up with bands like Pearl Jam, Kasabian, Queens of the Stone Age, Massive Attack, Snow Patrol and Alice in Chain top of the bill.

However, the billing the festival posted had one glaring omission: the Friday headliner has been left off. Given that the band haven't announced the date yet, it makes sense that Mad Cool are holding it back.

If the band are set to play Mad Cool, that would prove right at least some Arctic Monkeys fans who speculated the band were about to announce the date.

Last week, after it leaked that the four-piece will be playing Firefly Festival, the four-piece temporarily dropped a cryptic video full of scrambling numbers to their Instagram, hinting that there were more dates to come.

Fans on Reddit ran riot with the numbers, speculating that they contained potential tour dates and the geographical co-ordinates of where the band will play - with one of the gigs being Mad Cool. Other festivals fans thought they'd sleuthed were Primavera Sound and Rock Werchter.

None of these dates have been confirmed yet but it seems like only a matter of time until Mad Cool is announced. Better start booking your flights to Madrid now then.
