Fans Think Billie Eilish Was Pleading Not To Win Before Scooping Fifth Grammy

Her begging didn't work

You're 18 years old, you've just picked up four Grammy awards, and then your name is called for the Album of the Year - you're ecstatic, right? Well, not if you're Billie Eilish, it would seem.

As the winner of the prestigious award was about to be announced, fans reckon the singer-songwriter mouthed to herself: "Please don't be me, please."

Then, as it was announced that she was indeed the winner, Eilish seemed to yell: "NOOOOOOO!"

You would think the biggest challenge in such a scenario is trying to seem magnanimous when you're actually feeling smug as f**k, but there was no such problem for Eilish, who seemed more dismayed by the accolade than anything.

The likely explanation is that she felt undeserving of all the awards bestowed upon her, having claimed all four of the most coveted awards - Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist - as well as scooping the Best Pop Vocal award and being nominated for Best Pop Solo.

In landing the four big ones for her chart-topping debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? and single 'Bad Guy', Eilish became the first person to achieve the feat since Christopher Cross in 1981 and replaced Taylor Swift as the youngest artist to win a Grammy for Album of the Year.

Eilish made her feelings of unworthiness clear upon accepting her Album of the Year award, when she said: "Can I just say that I think Ariana [Grande] deserves this?

"Thank U, Next got me through some s**t and I think it deserves this more than anything in the world. I love you, thank you so much."

She was equally modest when accepting her award for Song of the Year with her brother Finneas O'Connell, who produced and co-wrote her album.

She said: "Why? Wow... Oh my god, so many other songs deserved this, I'm sorry.

"Hi. Thank you so much. This is my first Grammys. I never thought this would ever happen in my whole life. I grew up watching them. And this is my brother Finneas, and he's my best friend.

"I feel like I joke around a lot, and I never take anything seriously at these kinds of things, but I genuinely want to say I'm so grateful. And I only want to say that I'm grateful, and I'm so honoured to be here amongst all of you.

"I love you to my core. I grew up watching all of you. Thank you to my team, my mom, my dad, my best friends... for keeping me alive to this day."
