It really is Christmas come early

In news that may fill you with joy or make you want to rip your own ears off - a Christmas radio station that plays festive songs 24/7 is back on air today.

There are different aspects to this you might take issue with. The idea of hearing Christmas songs 24 hours a day may fill you with a feeling of intense rage. Or - more likely - it's the fact that this has launched TWO MONTHS before Christmas. That means one sixth of the year is now apparently Christmas.

Well, bosses at Heart Radio have clearly cottoned on to the fact that not everyone is a total misery and have decided they are ready to welcome the most wonderful time of the year as soon as physically possible - after the only other holiday worth celebrating.

That's right, Heart Radio Extra Xmas relaunches today, after first hitting our air waves in 2016.

So for the next 54 days, prepare yourself for all the hits - we're talking Mariah, Wham!, Band Aid, and everyone's favourite - The Waitresses.

But the big question is when they use up all the good ones, which probably works out at about 12 hours of music (if we're being generous) - what will the other 54 and a half days be filled with? There'll either be the dregs of festive songs, or lots and lots of repetition.

Heart Radio Extra Xmas will be available across the UK on DAB Digital Radio on D1 and across multiple platforms on Global Player, including the Global Player and Heart apps.

But we all know there's only one Christmas song this year that's worth listening to - Chris Kamara's. Maybe that's what they've got planned?

After the recent news that Tyson Fury is set to release a Christmas song with Robbie Williams, you might be shocked and dismayed to learn that Chris Kamara is throwing his Santa hat into the ring as well this festive season.

Yep, the former footballer turned pundit is bidding to become Christmas number one as he launches his new career in music.

The 61-year-old - famous largely for saying 'unbelievable, Jeff!' to a selection of entirely believable things - is releasing an entire album of Yuletide songs entitled Here's to Christmas.

He's keen to get across that he's not doing this for a laugh.

He said: "Initially, I thought we would do lots of gimmicky things and we'll have a laugh.

"I've been asked to release songs called 'Unbelievable' all the time and I actually wouldn't have minded.

"Then they told me, 'No, no, this is a serious album, we've got belief in you that this'll do OK. We think you're good'."

Unbelievable, Chris.

Of the song, he added: "The new song sounds like a Christmas song you've heard over and over a million times - but no one has ever sung it."

It's got our backing, Kammy.
