Coldplay Are Set 'To Return With New Album Next Year'

Bad good news music lovers, Coldplay are heading back into the studio to work on their eight album, according to a pal of the band.

Speaking to the NME director and friend of the band Mat Whitecross, said: "They're on a sabbatical at the moment so they've been ruthlessly on holiday for a year.

"They've never done that before. I don't know if you can call Chris a workaholic because he loves what he does; he's in and out of the studio writing three or four songs a day.

"This year, they decided to take off. They haven't been doing anything as far as I know, but they do have plans for next year however I've not been party to them."

When pressed about what the eighth album might sound like, he said it was 'interesting'.

Whitecross directed the new Coldplay documentary film Coldplay: A Head Full of Dreams, which is set to hit Amazon Prime Video tomorrow.

He added: "After every album, they just feel so spent. Chris always feels like 'Oh, we're done now. As a band we don't have anything else left to say'. Gradually, it all rekindles, and they start to get excited about what's happening next."

Chris Martin and co haven't released any new music since last year, and fans (yes, they do have fans - they put on one of the highest grossing tours of all time, believe it or not) are getting pretty excited on social media, with one writing: "My heart is happy. I hope this is true." Others were less excited, shall we say.

However, you feel about the band's music, Martin seems like a thoroughly decent sort of chap, doesn't he? Last year, a fan and barman from Dublin told the singer he had forked out €200 (£177) for a ticket to see Coldplay at Croke Park after being forced to go through a tout to get his hands on one.

Upon hearing that he'd been ripped off over the price, Martin reportedly handed him a 50 note to make up the difference. See? That's nice, isn't it? I hope you feel bad about all the terrible things you've said about Coldplay now.
