Fans Lay Into Ed Sheeran After He Postponed Tour Dates Because Of Injured Arms

'I’m so disappointed'

Ed Sheeran has had a bit of a rollercoaster of a year in 2017. First his album ÷ absolutely smashed the charts, only for the singer-songwriter to be horrifically ridiculed on social media for his cameo in Game of Thrones. Still, he's been touring the world for several months at sold-out stadiums, playing to tens of thousands of screaming fans.

However, he's recently upset a bunch of people after postponing several tour dates. But it wasn't because of a 'scheduling conflict' or 'personal issues', it's because he fucking fractured bones in his right wrist and left elbow.

There was mounting speculation about the future of his shows after he was hit by a car while riding a bike in London, and Ed's now confirmed that several dates of the Asian leg of his tour will have to be postponed.

He wrote on Instagram: "A visit to my doctors confirmed fractures in my right wrist and left elbow that will leave me unable to perform live concerts for the immediate future.

"Sadly, this means that the following shows will not be able to go ahead as planned: Taipei, Osaka, Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong. I'm waiting to see how the healing progresses before we have to decide on shows beyond that. Please stay tuned for more details."

While there have been plenty of people wishing him well, swathes of fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment - and it hasn't been pretty. One person wrote: "You know, Chester Bennington broke his wrist on stage, carried on till the end of the show and went on with his tour despite the fact of, ya know, a broken wrist."

Another post said: "Remember Dave Grohl when he broke his leg on the show? He went to the hospital, fixed his leg and came back to sing for the people he loved. Show up on stage, bud, that's what we do, that's our life.

This fan was a bit more blunt: "So you let down all these people that have paid to see you, just because you did that. Jesy Nelson from Little Mix was in a wheelchair for one of the Get Weird concerts and she still did it."

People seem to be quick to reference other bands or artists carrying on with their concerts despite injuries. However, it's worth remembering how the 26-year-old performs - and how that's likely to have informed his decision to postpone.

Not only does his guitar help cool his anxiety, but it's also central to how he builds his songs live on stage through his loop pedal. He creates virtually everything using his voice, the guitar chords or by tapping on the body of the instrument.

You'd imagine those fans wouldn't want to see a performance that's anything less than 100 percent, just as the 'Galway Girl' hitmaker wouldn't want to play that way.

Get well soon, Ed.
