Harry Styles Confirms NSFW Meaning Behind Watermelon Sugar

I mean, many of us had realised he probably wasn't talking about delicious, juicy fruit...

Singer Harry Styles has finally confirmed the meaning behind hit song 'Watermelon Sugar'... and it's as x-rated as many of us suspected.

The catchy track featured on his second studio album Fine Line, and has been stuck in our heads ever since its official release back in May 2020.

Styles, 27, had previously admitted to Rolling Stone that the album itself was 'all about having sex and feeling sad', so when he started crooning about the mysterious 'Watermelon Sugar', we were all left wondering if there was a link to the sexual theme.

After all, it's unlikely that the summery hit had anything to do with sadness, considering Styles sings lyrics like "Tastes like strawberries on a summer evenin' / And it sounds just like a song / I want more berries and that summer feelin' / It's so wonderful and warm", "I want your belly and that summer feelin' / Getting washed away in you," and, of course "I just wanna taste it, I just wanna taste it / Watermelon sugar high."

Sounds like he might not be talking about fruit, eh?

Well, it turns out your suspicions are correct, as Styles explained to fans while on tour at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on 1 October.

Addessing the crowd about the song, he said: "The song is about - it doesn't really matter what it's about."

He continued: "It's about, um, the sweetness of lif... It's also about the female orgasm but that's totally different, it's not really relevant. So that settles that."

Earlier this year, Styles picked up a BRIT Award for the song, having won the British Single of the Year accolade.

Collecting the award, he said: "I just continue to be baffled by moments like this.

"They make me more and more incredibly grateful that I get to do this job every day.

"I am really happy and proud to be here celebrating British music tonight.

"I want to thank my friends for being so generous to me, always. And everyone who always has my back.

"Thank you so much to everything you did for our country, this one is for you."

It also won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance - which isn't bad going for a song about orgasms.
