Singer Jesy Nelson is taking extended time out from Little Mix due to 'private medical reasons', a representative for the band confirmed.

The Little Mix rep said in a statement: "Jesy is having extended time off from Little Mix for private medical reasons.

"We will not be issuing any further comment currently and ask media to please respect her privacy at this time."

Fans have grown concerned about Nelson after the star pulled out of the final of BBC series Little Mix: The Search, which saw the band seek out new talent to support them on their UK tour.

She was also unable to attend the 2020 Europe Music Awards, where the group were due to host and perform during the event.

Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock ended up doing the gig without her.

A rep for the band said at the time that Nelson would be absent for both engagements as she was 'unwell'.

A statement said: "Jesy is unwell and will not be appearing on tonight's final of Little Mix The Search.

"She will also not be hosting or performing at tomorrow's MTV EMAs."

Nelson also did not appear in a pre-recorded Little Mix sketch with kids' TV duo Dick and Dom, which aired last Friday as part of Children In Need which aired last Friday.

Many fans have wished her well on social media, with one tweeting: "Sending all my love to Jesy, I really hope she is okay and getting better. Her health will always comes first therefore, I hope people [...] will respect that. I hope Jesy knows that all her fans will be looking forward to see her return when she is ready."

Someone else wrote: "We get it, and she should take all the time she needs. Her health and well being will ALWAYS be #1. Mixers will be on standby for when she's ready to return and until then we are sending Jesy all the positive vibes and love in the world."

A third added: "I know she won't see this but I just hope she knows that we're all sending her so much love and light."

Nelson joined Little Mix when the group was formed in 2011's series of The X Factor.

They have gone on to become one of the country's best-selling girl bands, having recently released sixth album Confetti.
