The Super Bowl halftime show from Jennifer Lopez and Shakira drew as much attention as the game itself, but you might be surprised to learn the two singers won't be picking up a hefty pay cheque for the performance.
While both J.Lo and Shakira routinely pull in millions of dollars while on tour, the Super Bowl halftime show is such an iconic gig that performances forgo payment, according to Forbes.
The NFL cover the production costs, such as lighting and pyrotechnics, and pay performances 'union scale' fees, which is a teeny fraction of what J.Lo and Shakira usually earn.

Marc Ganis, president of consulting firm Sportscorp told Forbes: "They are willing to perform for free and even subsidise the production costs through their record label or concert promoters because of this incredible exposure.
"Even the biggest names need to continually promote themselves. The Super Bowl halftime show is the single biggest promotional vehicle for a music star on the planet."
But don't feel too sorry for the multimillionaire singers, because if past performance is anything to go by they're both set for a huge boost in record sales.
Back in 2018, when Justin Timberlake performed he saw his Spotify streams rise 214 percent in the hour after the halftime show.

The year before, when Lady Gaga took part, her album - which wasn't a new release - ended up running 60 places back up the charts and hit number two on the Billboard chart the week after the Super Bowl.
Shakira and J.Lo were joined by Bad Bunny and J Balvin during the set. There was also an adorable appearance by Lopez's 11-year-old daughter, Emme Maribel, who joined in to sing the classic 'Let's Get Loud'.
The singer shares Emme with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, who tweeted after the performance: "Emme Daddy is so proud of you. You are my [heart] and I am forever yours."

Before their performance both J.Lo and Shakira said they were eager to pay tribute to their heritage.
"Two Latinas doing this in this country at this time is just very empowering to us," J-Lo said.
Shakira added: "It's very important for us to convey a message of unity and also to show what a relevant force the Latin community is in this country."
