A lot of people think that the Brit Awards aren't what they used to be, but there was a time when the ceremony was one of the most hotly anticipated nights in British music's calendar.

The show has never been short on controversy and with band bust-ups, nip-slips and stage invasions aplenty, it's managed to serve up some TV gold over the years.

Let's be honest, celebrities kicking off is one of the best things about it.

From Jarvis Cocker's stage invasion to Robbie Williams challenging Liam Gallagher to a fight, here's a look back at some of the show's most outrageous moments.

JARVIS COCKER STORMS THE STAGE DURING MICHAEL JACKSON'S PERFORMANCE

MJ appeared at the 1996 award show to perform 'Earth Song', surrounded by children and dressed in all white everything as if he was a saint. However, the Pulp frontman wasn't having any of it and decided to invade the stage in protest.

Speaking in an interview after the incident, he said: "My actions were a form of protest at the way Michael Jackson sees himself as some kind of Christ-like figure with the power of healing. I just ran on the stage. I didn't make any contact with anyone as far as I recall."

JOSS STONE'S BIZARRE AMERICAN ACCENT

This was probably more cringe than outrageous to be fair. The then 20-year-old singer, from Devon, turned up to present the award for British Male Solo Artist in 2007 and started speaking in a bizarre American twang.

She came out in a multicolored mini-dress with purple hair, cracked a terrible joke about Russell Brand and sent "big, big love" to Robbie Williams, who'd just gone into rehab. She then sang the chorus to Amy Winehouse's hit song, a moment which will make you want to crawl into a hole and die.

Never forget where you're coming from, Joss.

ROBBIE WILLIAMS CHALLENGES LIAM GALLAGHER TO A FIGHT

When two musicians had a beef in the pre-Twitter era, they had to hurl their insults IRL. Take Robbie Williams and Liam Gallagher for example, who spent much of the 90s slinging shit at each other in very public forums.

Robbie took the opportunity to use his acceptance speech at the 2000 BRITs to offer the Oasis frontman a scrap.

He said: "So, anybody like to see me fight Liam? Would you pay to come and see it? Liam, a hundred grand of your money and a hundred grand of my money. We'll get in a ring and we'll have a fight and you can all watch it on TV."

Who would win, though?

LIAM GALLAGHER THROWS HIS MIC AT THE CROWD

Oh look, Liam again. Shock. The singer turned up to accept his award for Best Brits album of the past 30 years back in 2010 and delivered a foul-mouthed acceptance speech. He then threw his microphone into the crowd and subsequently caused a 10 minute delay.

Peter Kay was hosting the ceremony that year and when he returned to the stage to introduce the next act, he simply said: "What a knobhead.

JAMES CORDEN CUTS OFF ADELE'S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

Back in 2012, James Corden cut off Adele while she was giving her acceptance speech for Best Album because the show was running behind schedule. She was not happy.

Corden said: "I'm so so sorry, I can't believe I'm going to do this..."

Obviously fuming, Adele said: "Oh alright, I'm sorry and I'll see you this time next year!" and then stuck up her middle finger before walking off.

GINGER SPICE FLASHES HER NIPPLE

The 1997 awards was all about the Spice Girls. After performing some of their hit songs, the girl group scooped the award for the Best British Single.

While they were thanking the fans, Geri managed to give everyone an eye-full of her bust and exposed her nipple due to a terrible wardrobe malfunction. She didn't seem to mind, though.

More of this tomorrow please, folks.
