Liam Gallagher has long been known for being an outspoken livewire - but his public persona has mellowed out slightly over the past decade or so.

Now fans of Gallagher have found everything they knew about the former Oasis frontman turned upside down as last night Gallagher sang a song while holding the microphone. With his hands.

Gallagher is currently completing a world tour for his debut solo album As You Were and was on stage at the DirecTV Arena in Tortuguitas, Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina last night.

In fan images taken at the gig it's clear to see that Gallagher is wandering around the stage holding the microphone while he sings his song Universal Gleam:

Oasis fans will know that this is a total unknown for Liam who has always had one iconic pose on stage: standing straight, arms behind his back, arching his head up towards the mic on the stand like a baby bird begging his mum to feed him some sick.

The pose is as much a part of Liam's on-stage schtick as him wearing his classic parka coat and holding a tambourine. Here's a perfect representation of what Liam normally looks like on stage below:

People were clearly confused at this new, more languid Liam in the video of last night's gig and took to Twitter to show their confusion.

"Wow, is that a first?" one person asked.

"Weird seeing him hold a microphone." another said, with others agreeing that the video 'looks wrong'.

"He looks like Ian Brown," a third added, comparing him to the fellow Manc and Stone Roses singer.

And a fourth person, clearly distraught by this unforeseen development, added: "What's the world coming to?"

Steady on, mate. It's not like Liam's turned into the sort of person who rocks up on prime-time TV shows or anything...

Liam's sticking around in Buenos Aires for a few days to play Argentina's Lollapolooza festival this coming weekend so we'll see whether he repeats his more laid-back frontman act then.

Is this a sign that Gallagher is mellowing out as he enjoys his middle age? The way that the legendary singer's carrying on, we might see him sat down on a chair during his next album cycle. Now that would make people kick off.
