There have always been rumours that there was a fierce rivalry between Michael Jackson and Prince. It's no surprise really, they were the two biggest musical stars of the 80s, both with an unparalleled talent for crafting massive pop songs.

However, new recordings show just how much MJ disliked Prince during that period. According to FACT these recordings are from 1988 when MJ was writing his Moonwalker autobiography.

The contents of the secretly recorded conversation were shared by the Daily Mirror for the first time this week. Listen here.

In the clip MJ says he doesn't appreciate the comparisons because he's been making music for much longer than Prince and he also states that when he met Prince he thought he was very rude.

"I have proven myself since I was real little. It's not fair. He feels like I'm his opponent," Jackson told the interviewer. "I hope he changes because boy, he's gonna get hurt. He's the type that might commit suicide or something."

He then added that Prince was "one of the rudest people I have ever met," and that he had been "mean and nasty to my family."

The conversation also mentioned a very famous 1983 performance where MJ, Prince and James Brown all shared the stage. Jackson claims that Prince made a fool of himself after he mistaked a fake stage lamp post for a real one and then fell into the crowd. "People were running and screaming. I was so embarrassed. It was all on video."

You can watch it in the clip below:

Jackson also makes comments on his own family during the clip.

Regardless of how they felt towards each other they are arguably the two best to ever do it and both will always be sorely missed.
