Pop star Pink has revealed that she has been suffering from coronavirus, but has subsequently recovered and donated $1m (£815,000) to the fight against the virus that has almost brought the world to a standstill.

The singer took to Instagram to explain how she and her young son had started showing symptoms, and therefore decided to stay in self-isolation and keep themselves to themselves.

Now that she's out, the musician has donated a cool million of her own cash, of which half will be given to the Temple University Hospital Fund in her native Pennsylvania, and the other half to the City of Los Angeles Mayor's Emergency Covid-19 Crisis Fund.

Speaking online, she wrote: "Two weeks ago my three-year old son, Jameson, and I are were showing symptoms of COVID-19.

"Fortunately, our primary care physician had access to tests and I tested positive.

"My family was already sheltering at home and we continued to do so for the last two weeks following the instruction of our doctor. Just a few days ago we were re-tested and are now thankfully negative."

Now, after her experience, Pink has been critical of the way that the US government has reacted to the global pandemic, arguing that they have not been quick enough in ensuring that all Americans can be tested to see if they are carrying, or have been suffering from, Covid-19.

Calling the virus 'serious and real', Pink - real name Alecia Beth Moore - said: "People need to know that the illness affects the young and old, healthy and unhealthy, rich and poor, and we must make testing free and more widely accessible to protect our children, our families, our friends and our communities."

As for her large donation to help those working tirelessly to fight the illness, Pink chose a cause that is close to her heart for a chunk of that cash.

She offered up $500,000 (£407,000) to the Temple University Hospital Fund as a way of honouring her mother, who she said had "worked there for 18 years in the Cardiomyopathy and Heart Transplant Center."

The rest goes to aid the medical staff fighting the virus in Los Angeles.

She concluded: "THANK YOU to all of our healthcare professionals and everyone in the world who are working so hard to protect our loved ones. You are our heroes! These next two weeks are crucial: please stay home. Please. Stay. Home,"

There you have it guys. Stay home, stay safe.
